Choco In Peru

Day 16 - 1 April

Today was really nice.
We went back to Mamma Cocha and finished of all the painting and then we worked on constructing a water tower so the house can have water 24-7. It was really nice seeing the pleasure that the kids felt after knowing they would have water. Once we had finished it was time to say goodbye.
Here is one part. I was so happy with the people there that I have decided to stay here with the drawings that you guys have all given these children and I just want to tell all of you wonderful children at CIS that you are all the most amazing drawers I have ever seen and I hope that one day I can come back and then thank you all again for helping the Rainbow Center and giving Mamma Cocha the gift of art.

Once again I just want to say thank you! I hope one day you can come and also visit me. See you all some time in the future

Day 15 - 31 March

Today was our first day in Los Organos!
We woke up (after a good but short nights sleep) and were all really excited to get working with the children at Mamma Cocha. What we didnt know was that when we got there, was that it would be really muddy because of the rain that came with us. But what we spent the day on was painting an area near the entrance to the classroom and then coating a office with varnish. It was some smelly business and when we saw the children and how happy they were when they saw us painting, we all started to feel so happy and proud.
Hopefully tomorrow will be as good

Day 14 - 30 March

Today was a very exciting day.
After taking a look in Lima and going to this mall we just really relaxed and got packing for our flight to Los Organos.
We took the flight at 19:30 and arrived there at 22:00. The weather here is soooo warm and humid. The bugs are all really big compare to Denmark's and then when we finally arrived at the hotel at 02:30 at night (because our van broke down a couple of times) we just fell a sleep at once.
This time though, the beds were soft!

Day 13 - 29 March

Today was not that eventful.
We flew to Lima at lunchtime and after that we really just relaxed in the hotel we were origninally in.
Hopefully tomorrow, where we arrive in Los Organos, there will be more excitment

Day 12 - March 28.

Today we went to Cusco. That was the capital of the Incan Empire 500 years ago!
We woke up at 5:30 and then we drove for 5 and a half hours until we finally reached the hotel in Cusco. Once we arrived we found our rooms and then we ate some pizza, then we just relaxed until dinner, where we went to a restaurant with a peruvian band. They played really well, and after eating we walked home and just relaxed until we eventually fell asleep.

Day 11 - 27 March

Today was really good!
We finished out hike (hurra!) and we then walked all the way down the really tall mountain only using our legs (no hands or cars) and then we arrived at this really awesome place. We stayed there as well and guess what they had. Heated springs! Some of the water that came down from the mountains is really warm, and these people collect it and make these really warm pools that me and my friends could swim in.
After swimming for a while we slept in the place around the swimming pools in out tents.

Day 10 - 26 March

Today was the grand beginning of our hike in the mountains.
It was really hard, but boy! Those views were amazing. The mountains are so big that each mountains is bigger than the whole CIS school! We saw other cool things, like sheep, waterfalls, rivers, llamas and these tiny bananas that were really yummy. I had lots of fun, and when we got half way up the mountain we had to sleep in a tent, with a campfire and all of those things. I hope I dont get cold during the night.

Day 9 - 25 March

Hello again,
Today was really nice and sad at the same time. Today was our last day at the Rainbow Center, this meant we finished buildings Fernando's house, and then played with the kids until we had to go. It was really hard saying goodbye and I will really miss all those fantastic kids

Day 8 - 24 March

Today was a really interesting day. We were now put into two new groups, one would paint and one would build. My friend Sebastian and I were put in the painting group. Here we would finish of the details on the boys’ and girls’ room. After spending most of the day painting, we came home to the Rainbow Center where we played with the wonderful children. All the children were so happy, and they were all very kind to everyone on the team. After finishing the work and playing volleyball, we climbed a mini-mountain. It was really tough but when we reached the top, it was as if we had reached the top of the world. I cannot wait to talk to you guys tomorrow, and hopefull you are all having as much fun as my frends and I.

Day 7 - 23 March

Today our two groups reversed roles. My group would help build Fernando’s room, and the other group with the other half of the people would paint the girls room. Building the room was really hard, we had to carry these large mud bricks, make cement with mud and grass and then finally, put the bricks and cement together to make the room. It was really messy business as you can see on my picture. All in all it was really fun though, and if I were to do it tomorrow I would be just as happy.

Day 6 - 22 March

Today I painted at the Rainbow House, not the Center. The Rainbow House is a house for some of the children that cannot go home because they do not have a very nice house. What we (me and half of the people on the team) did was paint the boys room. We first had to move all their beds out of the room, and then paint the 4 walls in the room blue. This was a really messy job and our camera even got covered in paint. See you tomorrow.

Day 5 - 21 March

Today I woke up knowing that I would see the Rainbow Center, and let me tell you, it was amazing! Because it was Sunday the children werent actually there, which meant we could learn about each part of the Center, and find out what we were going to do whilst we were working at the Rainbow Center. What we have to do is build a room for Fernando, the boy who was found tied up under the bed ten years ago. Tomorrow, I will be painting the Rainbow House and I cannot wait.

Day 4 - 20 March

Today was amazing: we flew all the way to Cusco on a plane that only had 20 rows, that’s not that many compared to the Jumbo-Jet we flew on to get to Peru. Once we were done with the 1 hour flight, we drove for 2 hours to Urabamba where the Rainbow Center is. I am so excited to be here and all the people on the team have also been really excited. I cannot wait to visit the Rainbow Center tomorrow.

Day 3 - Sight-Seeing in Lima (19th March 2010)

Hello again guys!
Today we went around Lima in a bus and saw a really big church. It was build 300 years ago and has many really cool paintings. The church was so big, even with tourists like me and my friends from Team Peru comming to see the church, there was still space for 40 monks to live, eat and sleep in the church.
After seeing the church we went to lunch as a restaurant that served deep-friend squid, and fish that was cooked in lemon and chilli sauce. It tasted really good and it was squid and fish that was caught this morning!
After eating we returned to the hotel for a siesta, and after the delicious food, we went to bed.

Day 2 - The Second Part of the Big Trip

Hello Guys!
After we woke up in Amsterdam we had to eat breakfast in the airport, we had all different kinds of sandwiches and fruits. It was all really tasty and healthy.
The plane we took to peru was gigantic! it was a jumbo-jet! It was so big, I almost got lost and couldnt find my seat, but my friends helped me.
The plane ride took 13 hours! thats more than half a day. It was such a long flight, that fell asleep for most of it. But the hours I were awake were so fun that i could not stop laughing.
Once we got of the plane the sun was setting and it was 28 Celcius, it was like summer. We all got our bags and drove to our comfortable hotel. Lima (the city we are staying in right now) is really big. There live 8 million people living in Lima, thats more than the whole of Denmark (Denmark has 5 million). But since the sun was down, everything was really dark and we couldnt see many of the buidlings.
Once we got the hotel, we ate dinner and this peruvian fruit called "Grenadia". It was sweet and really soft.
And after that, we had to go to bed.

Day 1 - The Big Trip Begins ( 17th March 2010)

Today I began my journey back to Peru.
It was all really exciting and I got to say hello to all the members of Team Peru.
We all met at the big airport and took a plane to Amsterdam, it was a really cool ride and only took 2 hours!
Once we arrived we went to a hotel that was inside the airport and we slept their for the night.
It was a really fun and exciting start!
